Offshore wind at this beach blows from the southwest through the northwest, roughly 202 to 337 degrees. That is the wind direction that holds the face up instead of crumbling it. Anything out of the east is onshore here and it turns the surf to mush.

The inlet generally surfs best on an incoming tide with some water moving. Dead slack, at the very top or the very bottom of the tide, is usually the flattest part of the day. A longer period matters more than raw height: an eight second wind swell at three feet is a different ocean than a twelve second groundswell at the same height.

Ponce de Leon Inlet shapes most of what happens here. Sandbars move with every storm season, so the peak that worked in the spring is often somewhere else by the fall.
